Love your work Isaac, but I do think you are putting too much on this new theory about companies making their money from governments, ngos, etc. some of that is happening, but I think there is little direct funding going from these sources to corporations. If you have evidence, I’d love to see some specifics. Much simpler explanation is just that the people that do the marketing, HR, PR, etc are all of this mindset and the corporate leaders just do what they say because it works to keep them out of scandals. Yes, they alienate the conservatives, but in the end, most conservatives don’t care that much when making purchasing decisions. Why it’s happening in media is a more complicated question I’d say and harder to pin down, but still not because these publishing outlets are getting funding from above. Great convo though, love the breadth of people you are bringing on.

thanks brotha. I'll admit...it is a justification searching for a cause. But I arrived at it via interrogation of the causes behind woke marketing, which is, I think we can all agree, a bewildering and nonsensical phenomenon. It is in part true that it's causes are bureaucratic, but that doesn't explain it fully. There must be SOME economic justification. Many say that brands are making woke decisions strategically, consultants crunching numbers that say woke-ism is more profitable, but I've been inside brands and I can tell you this is not true. So there has to be a fuller description of why the smart people inside these companies are driving this decisionmaking, and I think diversified revenue streams is a partial explanation.

Thanks, I agree and hope you keep investigating these corrosive revenue streams. The point might be easiest to make in terms of non-profits which are entirely grant/donation funded. I've heard many stories about those funding streams and how these organizations spend much of their productive time applying for grants and mashing square pegs into round holes, with very little feedback as to results in the real world. Lots of slush fund money perpetuating systems of well-paid democratic voters who vote for more slushy ;)

Anyhow, thanks again
