Good points about Korean film. The most popular ones seem to just mix every genre in one film (horror, drama, comedy, action, sci fi)--very fitting for the remix era of the 2010-20's, although I'm getting sick of it. The point about squid game was excellent too and I would add that it is the longing we have for a cohesive culture that makes that show and many Korean movies compelling. Korea is the hermit/turtle kingdom with basically three last names...they are all family and feel that bond even across the 38th parallel. Americans long for a national family that is not tinged with shame and we can live that proxy in Korean media.
